Educational Field Trip
In a few hours we will be leaving the beloved city of Buenos Aires and heading down to the southern-most city in the world, Ushaia (I think I spelled that wrong), and then on Sunday, we're gonna jump on a cruise boat that will take us through the fiords of Chile...pretty exciting stuff I know, curb your enthusiasm. Needless to say, we have everything planned out by travel agents, we're staying in some pretty nice places, we get fed three times a day, and best of all (it's beginning to sound redundant), the school is paying for it all! I'd love to give you the itinerary right now, but I don't feel like digging it out and typing it up. I'm not sure if I will be getting internet down in Cape Horn, but if I do I'll keep you all posted. If not, which I'm assuming because they still haven't invented the wheel down there, I will post extensively upon returning to civilization. Wish me luck, as I only have one pair of jeans, sweats, and two thin jackets...but I'm a man so I'll survive!

Thought I'd help out with the itinerary, Tan, since a few family members got it from your mom. Sounds like an amazing time--can't wait to see pics and hear about it! Keep having fun:-)

M/V MARE AUSTRALIS / USHUAIA - PUNTA ARENAS ROUTE
(4 days / 3 nights, Wednesday to Saturday)
DAY 1 - Ushuaia
Check in at San Martín 245, Ushuaia, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., embark the Expedition Cruise Ship. The Captain and crew will give a welcome cocktail reception on board. Immediately afterward, the ship will set sail for “the uttermost part of the earth.” Through the mythical Beagle Channel, we will travel to Southern Patagonia, including Tierra del Fuego. This is the beginning of a Great Adventure.
DAY 2 - Cape Horn - Wulaia Bay
We will sail through the Beagle and Murray Channels to disembark in Cape Horn National Park (weather permitting). Cape Horn was declared a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in June, 2005. In the afternoon we will disembark in historical Wulaia Bay, once the site of one of the region’s largest native settlements. This area is also renowned for the spectacular beauty of its vegetation and geography. We will walk through a Magellanic forest filled with Lengas, Coigües, Canelos, ferns and other species to reach a look-out point.
DAY 3 - Gunther Plüschow Glacier
We will disembark near the Gunther Plüschow Glacier and approach to Piloto and Nena glaciers from the Zodiac boats, providing us with a closer look at these awe-inspiring masses of ancient ice.
DAY 4 - Magdalena Island - Punta Arenas
Early in the morning, we will disembark on Magdalena Island, the home of an immense colony of more than 120,000 Magellanic Penguins that we will be able to observe during our walk to the Lighthouse that guides different ships on their way through the Strait of Magellan.
After our visit, we will return to Punta Arenas, disembarking at 11:30 a.m., concluding our adventure.

Tan, It's beginning to sound redundant on my part, but the school is NOT paying for it all as you so graciously stated... enjoy yourself just the same ---love,your downer of a dad
